| The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is in compliance with Principle 3.2.10 because all of our administrators are evaluated on a periodic basis. Administrators, as defined in Principle 3.2.8, include the President, Vice Presidents, Deans, and Academic Directors. The President is evaluated by the Chancellor on behalf of the Board of Trustees on a yearly and a five-year evaluation cycle(Presidential Evaluation: The University of Alabama System). Vice Presidents are evaluated by the President on an annual basis. Administrators outside of Academic Affairs are evaluated by their immediate supervisor on an annual basis. Deans and Academic Directors are evaluated every five years based on a schedule maintained in the Office of the Provost. The UAH Faculty Handbook, Appendix A describes procedures for evaluating deans and directors, including how often such reviews are conducted, and who conducts the reviews. Evaluation of the President As described in detail in Principle 3.2.1, The University of Alabama System presidents undergo both annual and five-year evaluations. These processes are presented in The UA System document entitled "Presidential Evaluation: The University of Alabama System." The annual evaluation is conducted by the chancellor at the beginning of the calendar year. It includes both a written and verbal evaluation which is reviewed with the appropriate committee of the Board of Trustees. The five-year evaluation is a comprehensive process and includes review of performance indicators for the campus and interviews with campus constituents. The chancellor discusses the evaluation with the President and the entire Board of Trustees. The five-year evaluation process is being phased in for the presidents in The UA System. Evaluation of Vice Presidents The five UAH Vice Presidents (Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice President for Finance and Administration, Vice President for Research, Vice President for Student Affairs, and Vice President for University Advancement) report directly to the President. Each Vice President is evaluated annually by the President. Evaluation of Deans and Academic Directors The seven academic deans (Administrative Science, Engineering, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Science, Graduate Studies, and the Library) and the seven academic directors (Alliance for Minority Participation, Continuing Education, Cooperative Education, Honors, Institute for Science Education, Multicultural Affairs, and Space Grant Consortium), the Associate Provosts, and the Associate Vice President for Enrollment Services report directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Provost conducts an annual review of these individuals. In addition, a comprehensive performance review is conducted during the fifth year of continuing appointment for Deans and Directors. The fifth year evaluation is conducted by a committee constituted for each evaluation. It provides for input from internal and external constituents. The committee reports its findings and recommendations to the Provost who, with concurrence of the President, makes a decision about continuation. The Provost discusses the outcomes of the evaluation with the individual being evaluated. Records related to the evaluation are maintained in the Office of the Provost.
